Fields of freesias, wild cherries, and longtail birds chirping and dancing in the sky – spring is here! For many visitors and residents, this is their favorite season in Bermuda. The days are longer, the weather is mild, and tours, experiences and attractions across the island begin operating more frequently.
Here are some of my favorite springtime activities in Bermuda.
HIKING & BIKING
I personally love getting outdoors year round, including summer, but for many, the idea of spending hours hiking and biking in the heat is completely unappealing. That’s why spring is the perfect time to lace on your sneakers. There’s a lovely breeze, but you’ll still work up a nice sweat as you head off the beaten paths and go exploring. The forts and beaches around St. George’s coast, and Coopers Island Nature Reserve are not to be missed! Take one of our walking and bicycle tours! You’ll get outdoors AND learn about the history of the island.
HAPPY HOUR
There is a song called ‘Bermudians Love to Drink’ which aptly explains that we do not need a special occasion, nor do we wait for any particular season to enjoy a cocktail. But there’s something to be said about sitting out on the decks around St. George’s Harbour on a sunny evening, watching the sky change into vivid pinks and sipping on reduced priced beverages! There are several restaurants and bars with stunning views and drinks to match, so come hang out with us.
EVENTS
When the weather warms up, we start to enjoy outdoor festivals and events. In St. George’s we host the Peppercorn Ceremony in April, Bermuda Day Marathon and Dinghy Race in May, and beach parties for Bermuda Carnival in June! Even the events that operate year round, like Afternoon Tea at the Bermuda Perfumery and our History with a Twist tour move to outdoor locations once Spring arrives.
ON THE WATER
Now’s the time to get in and on the water! Of course there’s swimming at our many beaches (St. George’s parish has more beaches than any other!), but also consider kayaking, jetskiing, and paddleboarding. The St. George’s harbour is perfect for exploring.
LOCAL FOOD MARKETS
The abundance of local food options soars in the Springtime! All of the farmers’ tables are groaning with leafy greens, sweet tomatoes, colourful carrots, and much much more! There’s Tucker’s Farm Goat Cheese, yummy baked goods, gorgeous flowers and more… my friends and I load into a car and do a road trip all the way to the western end of the island, being sure to visit as many farms and roadside stands as possible.
It’s such a glorious time so be sure to get outside and experience the best that a Bermuda Springtime has to offer.
